About Our Medical Director

Dr. John J. Murphy is the Medical Director at our nursing and rehabilitation center. Born in New York City, he completed his studies at George Washington University Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington D.C.

When his time overseas as a Major in the Army Medical Corps came to an end, he returned to the United States. Seeking to live in a New England city, Dr. Murphy happened upon Leominster. After setting up his medical practice, he took the advice of his friend and mentor, Dr. Robert Goldman, to experience the hard work, joys and satisfaction of nursing home medical practice. After twenty years, Dr. Murphy still loves this work, enjoys the new challenges it presents and has never regretted moving to this community.

Dr. Murphy is an avid outdoorsman, who along with his wife and family, enjoy skiing, hiking, snorkeling and golf. He also has a passion for fly-fishing. He is involved in several environmental projects in Worcester County.

A well-rounded scholar, Dr. Murphy has presented lectures on a diverse body of topics, including The Medical Effects of Nuclear War, The Natural Ecology of the Nashua River, and The Poetry of Robert Frost. He is active in the American Medical Directors Association and serves as an Officer in the Massachusetts Medical Society.
